Boaters were out in true form for the Northwest Creeking Competition on April 16th. After record spring rainfall, the East Fork of the Lewis River was raging at almost 3,400 cfs. Despite rainy weather and high water, the campground was overflowing with river folk all weekend. The kayak race consisted of a grueling 3.4 mile sprint that ended at Sunset Falls. Rafters raced a traditional course from Sunset Falls down through Horseshoe falls. All were rewarded with hot burgers and cold beer at the takeout.
Congrats to the 2011 champions. They definitely
worked extra hard to earn their titles this year!
