Surf Wyoming

I get a lot of funny looks when I tell people I learned how to surf in Wyoming. It just so happens that there is a magic level on the Snake River that a standing wave forms at the entrance of Lunch Counter rapid, and it's perfect for surfing. Just beware that you don't get tangled up in the rafting traffic headed down Alpine Canyon.


I got a call from my brother that the wave was in late this year due to a huge snowpack in the Tetons. As luck would have it, I was about to roadtrip towards Salt Lake City for the Outdoor retailer show so I threw my surfboard in the truck and took a detour through Jackson, Wyoming.
